Teeth Whitening at Home :

This might bring a smile to many of our faces because it allows people to carry out the procedures at the comfort of their homes. The process obviously is not as quick as 1-2 hours as the previous process mentioned but can yield the same results if used in accordance to the routine stated. One such method is to brush on the whitening formula. It dries on ones teeth overnight and gives white, sparkling teeth in the morning.

However the process has two main flaws :
1) The formula needs to dry out, so if it one licks his/her teeth or drinks something, the formula is likely to get wet and fade off quickly.
2) Another drawback is in the formula itself. Most brush on formula consists of alcohol which helps to dry the product quickly and effectively and helps it to remain dry. However, as well all know, alcohol is the leading cause of bad breath. So even if your teeth are glimmering white, the effect is ruined when you start to speak.

Another simpler way involves the whitening strips. Everyone loves shortcuts and so this is a very popular method, where one just sticks strips onto the teeth that make the teeth look white and glittery. The best part being no preparation is required and this can be anywhere and very quickly. But the method has its drawbacks as well. Even though the surface of your teeth is beautiful the side cracks and dark borders become more pronounced and noticeable and so it ruins the overall look of the teeth. This happens because the strips cannot be fitted perfectly over the teeth.

Teeth Whitening in Office :
This is one of the traditional ways of teeth whitening and one of the lengthiest of procedures, but effective nonetheless. This is usually the dentist’s favourite methods. At first they make a mould of your teeth and send them to the lab. After a 5-10 days delay. The shining plastic moulds are then filled with low concentrations of peroxide and fitted to your teeth. Of course you have sit with them for about 1-2 hours. After about 3-4 such procedures your teeth is declared whiter and better looking.

A more modern and shorter form of whitening is the laser bleaching (also known as Power bleaching or argon bleaching). This procedure also has the same expense as the previous one but is a little less tiring for the patient. It involves applying concentrated peroxide onto the teeth and then a special light (usually consisting of argon) is shone onto the teeth (of course with the mouth open) and this reacts with the gel previously applied to complete the teeth whitening process. The two above mentioned procedures are a strong recommendation for people with excessive need for teeth whitening. Excessive smoking, tea/coffee drinking is a leading problem for teeth enamel decay and the process can replenish the looks of your teeth. However the process is expensive and one has to return after 6-8 months for a check up and minor fixes, which might not be very ‘wallet-friendly’.

Laser Teeth Whitening :
The patient sits down in the dentist chair. The dentist applies a teeth whitening gel and he points the laser at the teeth and the light removes yellow stains. The laser light is used to enhance the penetration of the whitening gel into your teeth enamel, thus improving the result of the tooth bleaching. The stains could come from coffee, nicotine or simply from years of eating certain foods. When the process ends, the patient leaves and does not need any further treatments in most cases.

Laser Teeth whitening offers another advantage over other types of teeth whitening procedures. A person with sensitive teeth may find it painful to use teeth whitening trays, teeth whitening toothpastes or other similar products. The laser process works well for people with sensitive teeth.
